I love Life - I love Food!

I have always been loving food! There are already many authors writing about them and... Just thought of giving my share...

This blog is not commissioned by any 'official' bodies or companies and I will be bored if I am going to introduce you (again!) about those 'so-called popular' seafood from all the 'you-already-know-what' restaurants/sites...

My little humble aim is to share some beautiful delights that are hidden in all corners of the island, if not the globe (if I travel). Some of which you might already know... But, for those who are still not aware, I sincerely hope to share my experience with you. And another thing is - I love to cook!

Good food need not to be exclusive, exquisite or expensive. It is prepared by a totally committed heart with the passion for life!

I think I am fortunate... No, I AM FORTUNATE! Wanna thank all who has given me inspirations.

Eat as much as you can, please!

Chinese Pork Knuckle (卤猪脚)

This is an area where most families come for recreation in the weekends. This food centre is familiar to all - East Coast Lagoon Food Village.

(Ok, I have to confess that this is my first attempt to blog and the pictures are not up to my satisfaction)

A little old store, not very elaborate, with red signboard and it's easy to spot during lunch/dinner time cos' there is always a long queue. It's popular dish - Chinese Pork Knuckle (卤猪脚)

This is a traditional Hokkien-Teochew dish - Pork Knuckle cooked in dark black soy sauce for hours until it's soft and tender so that the 'cartridge-jelly' and the fats will practically 'melts' in you mouth. Of course, it is not just the black soy sauce. Every single store that sells this will tell you that they have their secret 'little formula recipe' to make the sauce better! (Even my mother!) Indeed. They will look almost alike but the taste gives out everything.

Personally, I like German Pork Knuckle as well. However, every time when I come back from some foreign countries, this dish (prepared locally) will still makes me drawl...

This is not a typical local dish - In fact, you could find it in Malaysia, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong - Well, I guess anywhere where there are Chinese. Haha... But, trust me, they all taste differently and all are delicious in their own way. But, nothing compares to the taste of your own homeland! Even in Taiwan, when I have their well-known version of 'Sauce Pork Rice' (卤肉饭), I will still think of this hearty dish done by my mom.

Back to this store - The Pork Knuckle is served one-by-one (in a bowl) and you could choose whether to have more lean meat (瘦肉)or fat(肥肉). (The boss will ask you - So be prepared!) The sauce is utterly tasty and rich in flavor and the meat is well prepared. So you can just have the knuckle with steam white rice or, have some additional side-dishes(小菜)to go along - Preserved Veg(菜尾/酶菜)and Dried Beancurd(豆干)are nice to accompany the 'star' of your meal. In any case, these are yummies on their own!

However, I have to highlight to you that this store also sells soups like Bah-Gok-Teh(肉骨茶)and Pork Liver/Kidney Soup(猪干/腰只汤)and unfortunately, these are the 'disappointments'. You can forget about it and leave the space in your stomach for a nice coconut drink and sugar cane juice!

(Well, I never thought I could have so much to write about...)
